Friendly Reminder: 9 of 12 2013 Honda Models Feature Standard Backup Cameras

August 7th, 2012 by

If you were impressed upon first hearing that Honda would feature standard backup cameras in nine out of its twelve 2013 models, you aren’t alone. In fact, we here at Paragon Honda, have been flooded with questions about which new Honda are the lucky ones.

Today, we’re here to give you an update about which ones they are. Thus far, the Honda CR-V and limitedly-released FCX Clarity fuel-cell vehicle both feature standard backup cameras as of their respective 2012 model years. That’s two down. The remaining seven are models that will have them added as standard fare in 2013. They are…

– The 2013 Honda Accord
– The 2013 Honda Crosstour
– The 2013 Honda CR-Z
– The 2013 Honda Fit EV
– The 2013 Honda Odyssey
– The 2013 Honda Pilot
– The 2013 Honda Ridgeline

Of course, one question that’s still crossing everyone’s mind is why exactly Honda is making this move. The answer comes in the form of a new bill that’s ready to be passed into law. Starting in 2014, it would require automakers to include backup cameras as a standard feature in all new vehicles sold. It’s worth noting, though, that this isn’t the only reason.

“We’ve definitely known about the possibility of legislation down the pike, but we didn’t have to start this early,” says Honda spokesman, Chris Martin. Martin goes on to explain that one of the biggest factors behind making the move is actually how easy backup cameras are to integrate into models that feature infotainment screens.
