Honda Creative Marketing for HONDAVAC™, Mobile Integrations and New Tagline

September 4th, 2013 by

Honda’s always been such a creative automaker in our eyes, and the marketing for the 2014 Odyssey is certainly no exception.

One piece of the overall marketing plan is a new string of commercials featuring the familiar voices of Neil Patrick Harris (“How I Met Your Mother”) and Rainn Wilson (“The Office”). The three brief and humorous clips–“Owner’s Manual”, “It’s Here”, and “Stampede”–show snack foods (Wilson’s a gummy bear) and lint balls (voiced by Harris) conversing about how wonderful the Odyssey is…that is, until they discover its newest feature: a built-in vacuum cleaner dubbed the HONDAVACTM.

The campaign extends beyond the TV screen; Honda’s covered its bases across various media including print, mobile, and print.

Honda is also the first to market integration with two wildly popular mobile games, Angry Birds and Words with Friends. Interestingly enough, Honda’s actually creating content in Rovio’s Angry Birds Star Wars and exposing HONDAVACTM directly into the game, and it lets friends interact with a hot-spotted image for Words with Friends to display details of the minivan.

On top of this, Honda actually launched a new advertising tagline alongside the Odyssey campaign. It’s called “Start Something Special” and will continue to be a theme among all new Honda models. It’s meant to exemplify the strong bonds owners make with their Honda vehicles–essentially, a new relationship.
