HondaTrue Certified vs. Certified+: What’s Different

Both tiers get the same powertrain warranty. The real difference is in non-powertrain coverage and which used vehicles qualify for each — here’s exactly how they compare.

Quick answer

Same engine protection, different bumper-to-bumper window.

HondaTrue Certified and HondaTrue Certified+ are two tiers of the same CPO program — not two different inspection standards. Every certified Honda, regardless of tier, passes the same 182-point mechanical and appearance inspection and comes with a vehicle history report.

The tier a used Honda qualifies for depends on its age and mileage at certification. Certified+ is reserved for the newest, lowest-mileage stock — under 12 months old and under 12,000 miles — and Honda backs that newer condition with a longer non-powertrain warranty. Standard Certified covers a much wider range of used inventory (older than one year, up to six years past its model-year release, under 80,000 miles) with a shorter non-powertrain window that still meaningfully extends coverage past the original new-vehicle warranty.

  • Both: 7-year/100,000-mile powertrain coverage.
  • Certified+: 5-year/86,000-mile non-powertrain coverage.
  • Certified: 4-year/48,000-mile non-powertrain coverage.

Frequently asked questions

HondaTrue Certified FAQs

What is the difference between HondaTrue Certified and Certified+?

Certified+ is reserved for vehicles under 12 months old with under 12,000 miles and carries longer non-powertrain coverage (5 years/86,000 miles). Standard Certified covers older, higher-mileage used Hondas (up to 6 years past model-year release, under 80,000 miles) with 4-year/48,000-mile non-powertrain coverage. Powertrain coverage is identical on both.

Which used Hondas qualify for Certified+?

Only vehicles under 12 months old with under 12,000 miles at certification qualify for Certified+. Older or higher-mileage used Hondas certify at the standard HondaTrue Certified tier instead.

Is the powertrain warranty different between the two tiers?

No. Both tiers carry the identical powertrain warranty: 7 years or 100,000 total odometer miles, whichever comes first, from the vehicle’s original in-service date.

Do both tiers include the same 182-point inspection?

Yes. Every HondaTrue certified vehicle, at either tier, passes the same 182-point mechanical and appearance inspection and comes with a vehicle history report.
