Honda Sets New Record Sales for August
If you’ve noticed more Honda vehicles on the road lately, it’s probably because this year’s been quite a successful one for the Japanese automaker. With safety awards, vehicles with amazing new features (HONDAVAC? That’s brilliant!), stepping up the fuel economy game with the Civic Hybrid and Accord Hybrid, among so many other accomplishments, is it really a surprise that the sales reports are always so positive?
That being said, the August sales report for the company was a record-setter. American Honda Motor Co., Inc. roped in U.S. sales of 166,432 units, bumping it up a 26.7 percent increase over August 2012. Year-to-date results are equally as pleasing (11 percent increase). The Honda Division likewise scored a successful August with an increase of 29.1 percent over August 2012, and the company’s luxury extension, Acura, also reeled in a 9 percent increase.
The following vehicles should be recognized for their contribution :
- CR-V: broke all-time sales record from March 2012 and had a 45.1 percent increase over August 2012
- Accord: Achieved a 10.6 percent increase, month-over month.
- Civic: A 58.5 percent increase over August 2012 and achieved its best August since 2009
- Representing the light trucks, the Pilot and Ridgeline earned a 40.2 percent and 89.1 percent increase over last August, respectively.
“With three of our core models topping 30,000 units and the Honda brand up more than 29 percent, our August sales definitely didn’t take a break for the holiday weekend [Labor Day],” says John Mendel, executive vice president of sales at American Honda. “We’re keeping our foot on the gas as we transition into the 2014 model year including the introduction of an all-new Accord Hybrid in October.”1
