Honda Sponsors Project Drive-In: An Encore for Drive-In Theaters
Have you been to a drive-in theater lately? If you ask us here at Paragon Honda, there’s really no better way to enjoy a movie than inside a new Honda. Unfortunately, this experience of sharing special time with friends, family, or other half is not as prevalent as it was before and over 100 drive-ins are expected to close. Thankfully, Honda’s looking to help turn that around a bit.
Honda is sponsoring “Project Drive-In” which has a strong mission to save drive-in movie theaters from closing. It’s a baffling thought–drive-ins closing–especially since they were such a hit back in the 50s and 60s (there were over 4,000 drive-ins across the nation!). In the grand scheme of things, they’re not too old either; the first drive-in debuted in 1933. So what is Honda doing specifically to help preserve this 80-year old activity?
Honda will help what The National Association of Theater Owners has been doing to keep theaters alive: equip them with the necessary technology to thrive. Under The National Association of Theater Owners, 40 percent of theaters to switch to digital projectors, today’s requirement. This is easier said than done for all theaters; each screen with this technology is about $75,000, a steep price to pay for modernity. Honda–after reviewing public poll numbers of which drive-ins to save–will take five drive-in theaters and provide them with digital projectors. We couldn’t be any more thrilled with this cause!
